“Francis, Francis, go and repair My house which, as you can see, is falling into ruins.” With those words, relayed in a vision inside a crumbling chapel, Christ compelled Francis of Assisi, the son of a wealthy merchant, to renounce his inheritance and to devote his life entirely to poverty and service.

In 2013, the Franciscan friars of Sacred Heart Church in Peoria, Illinois commissioned an original high-relief, wood-carved wall sculpture celebrating that pivotal moment in their founder’s life.

We worked with our partner Art Studio Demetz in Italy to recreate the scene, based loosely on medieval paintings of the event
