In 2008 we participated in the construction of the Fathers of Mercy Chapel in South Union, Kentucky. This Romanesque-style Chapel is the primary oratory of the order. As the Fathers state on their web site, “With the mixture of murals and colors, the Chapel of Divine Mercy expresses the Mercy of God through it’s many features which also accentuate the charism and apostolate of the Fathers of Mercy.”
Our challenge was to merge new and old, placing an antique high altar in a new design that matched the colors and materials. Artwork was provided by Murals by Jericho.
New Liturgical Movement wrote about the project when it was in progress: “One will note here that wonderful use of colour and, wonderfully, the presence of stencilled designs which can be used to very great effect — as they have indeed been here. This sort of use of pattern and colour certainly manifest one stream of ‘noble simplicity’ in my estimation.”
